About Stoneychicken
Stoneychicken is a glass artist from Northern California who has been melting glass for over six years. Before glass, Stoneychicken was a firefighter and welder, and his first exposure to creating glass was in Eugene, OR. However, it wasn't until he took a class with Hendy, Chase, and Shubbuh at 8th wonder studio in Phoenix that he truly discovered his love for glass art.
Stoneychicken finds borosilicate to be a versatile medium with numerous techniques to learn, making it challenging for him to choose a favorite style. He enjoys carving, building chains, and making woodgrain, and his work frequently features frogs, mushrooms, and chains. As a welder, Stoneychicken used chains to build artistic pieces, and he has always wanted to make a glass chain.
While he considers himself a novice in the glass art world, he is lucky to have skilled artists to work with on pieces such as chains. Stoneychicken's artistic inspiration comes from his childhood in the PNW and the time he spent in the woods falling trees and running around. He finds making woodgrain and chains helps him stay connected to his roots.
Stoneychicken spends most of his time alone in his studio figuring things out, but he has taken classes with top artists and is blessed to have forged relationships that allow him to seek help or inspiration when needed. He is constantly learning and growing as an artist, and his work is still evolving.
Stoneychicken's collaborations with other artists have been a highlight of his career. He has worked with renowned glass artists such as Salt, Hendy, and BTB, among others. He finds inspiration in their work and daily life, as well as their business sense and fatherhood.
Stoneychicken's artistic style is constantly evolving, and he is still finding his groove. He is currently working on new projects and is excited about the possibilities for the future. Stoneychicken has been recognized for his work and has received awards for his creativity and craftsmanship. He advises aspiring glass artists to keep learning and stay curious.
Stoneychicken can be found on social media and has upcoming exhibitions and shows featuring his work.
