Niko Cray was born into glass. He's the son of glass artist Tony Cray and started at the bench as a kid under his father's mentorship, then moved from soft glass into pipe making and went all in on torch work in 2010. From his studio outside St. Louis he builds sculptural heady pieces with complex prep. He's found success at DFO, and a fountain sculpture he made with Salt, Cowboy and his father took first at the Midwest Meltdown.
The Niko Cray collection here is functional sculpture in the form of concentrate rigs, all serpents and sea life: an Encalmo Cobra Snake rig, an Encalmo Snake rig set, a King Cobra rig and a Crown Bones Shark rig. The encalmo work shows off clean color transitions, and every piece is built to dab, not just to sit on a shelf.
Buy Niko Cray online or stop by Smoke ATX in Austin on South Lamar, Slaughter Lane or Burnet Road to see these pieces up close.
